COLNE LEISURE CENTRE LATEST
Vital roof repair work has been carried out at Colne’s Leisure Centre.
Re-roofing has been carried out, after Liberal Democrat councillors won funding in the Pendle Council budget for the work.
The Liberal team is fighting for the future of our local pool and sports hall after options to close the centre were considered by councillors.
The essential roof repairs at the centre were cancelled by Conservative councillors in 2021.
Costs more than doubled since.
“The Liberal Democrats are committed to keeping our centre open,”said Andy Bell.
“It’s a scandal that critical maintenance work was cancelled, leading to a massive increase in cost,”

Taxi Safety Scandal
A Liberal Democrat proposal for properly recorded daily taxi safetychecks was voted down at Pendle Council’s full council meeting before Christmas.
Three Conservative councillors voted with Independent members to block the taxi safety scheme by a single vote.
Back in March, a majority of councillors backed a move from the Liberal Democrats to introduce an online app for taxi drivers to record daily safety-checks, but this decision was overturned by a single vote at the latest meeting.
Four Colne Conservative councillors (including two Vivary Bridge councillors) were missing from the meeting where three of their colleagues voted against the daily checks.
“Safety should be first and foremost” said Andy Bell. “60% of taxis have failed spot checks in the last two years. This cannot be allowed to continue.”

Andy Bell's Residents Survey
Campaigning town councillor Andy Bell and the local Liberal Democrats are carrying out a residents’ survey in Vivary Bridge to find out what YOU think about local issues and problems.
Forces veteran Andy Bell and the local team are fighting to improve services for residents in Colne. Andy is a councillor on Colne Town Council with David Clegg and the rest of the strong Liberal Democrats team in Colne.
Andy served 15 years with the Royal Engineers in Bosnia, the Falklands and Iraq. He organised Colne’s Poppy Appeal last November and is a leading member of the local Armed Forces breakfast club.
“Please complete our survey when you get it,” said Andy. “This will help us work for you and improve services for local people.”

Pothole Problems
A hot topic in Andy’s and the Liberal Democrat Team’s inbox is the problem with potholes.
“Many people have mentioned the awful hole next to the traffic lights on Vivary Way next to Barrowford Road,” said Andy Bell.
“And the problems on Birtwistle Avenue are beyond a joke. In both cases the roads have been bodged up time after time, with no proper repairs
carried out.
“Please let me and the team know if your street needs road or pavement repairs and we’ll do our best to get the county council to take action.
“We need a fair share of funding in Colne for proper resurfacing work, not just chucking tarmac in holes again and again.”
