Pendle's Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesman, Afzal Anwar has called on Andrew Stephenson to openly speak out against his party and the Conservative led Government on the proposed rise in tuition fees.
Afzal, who fought the 2010 general election in Pendle for the Liberal Democrats also signed a pledge with the NUS back at the election to vote against any proposed rise in fees if he was elected to Parliament. Now Afzal believes he should carry on sticking to the pledge by calling on the elected MP to vote against a proposed rise.
Afzal Anwar, the Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Pendle said: "Andrew should realise that thousands of young people are relying on him to stand up for them in Parliament.
"The future of our young people is at risk because of the proposed rise in fees, and I call on Stephenson to fight for the residents of Pendle and to not vote with his party."
Afzal Anwar would also like to highlight that Andrew Stephenson has previously claimed he came into party politics because of tuition fees, as they were introduced when he started university.
Afzal Anwar added: "Will Andrew honour the reason he came into politics or will he sit back and continue to be a puppet to the Tory leadership?"
