The Liberal Democrat agent in Pendle, Tony Greaves, has attacked the BNP candidate for hiding his address. The address on the ballot paper simply says "address in the Pendle constituency".
Tony Greaves, who as Lord Greaves criticised this new rule when it went through Parliament last year, said it made a mockery of open democratic elections. He demanded that Mr Jackman tell people in Pendle why he is trying to hide and what he has to hide.
Tony Greaves said: "It is a nonsense that he can try to hide where he lives when we (local politicians) all know where he lives. We all know he lives in a certain place in Pendle and we know his address. So why are the voters to be kept ignorant?
"It just shows that the BNP may be fascists and they may have dangerous right-wing views and try to stir up bother between local people form different backgrounds. But they are also just a joke."
Tony Greaves also revealed that at the meeting between party agents in Pendle convened by Returning Officer Stephen Barnes (at which the Tories did not condescend to turn up) the BNP announced they would be putting their own "BNP seals" on all the ballot boxes in Pendle.
Tony Greaves said: "This shows that they are not just a joke, they are suffering from some kind of delusions of persecution."
